60 to 0: How to Destress Post-Work

Most advertisements focus on going from 0 to 60:  promoting everything from cars to energy supplements.  Wake up earlier!  Work out harder!  Lasting energy!

How do you reverse that?  Going from 60 to 0 … otherwise known as “flipping the switch off” after work and letting go of your work stress and office anxiety before you enter your home and share the evening with your family.

Below are my top 5 favorite ways to “flip the switch off” after work and enter a peaceful evening:

  1. Sing your heart (and your stress!) out!  Listen to your favorite radio station on the way home and sign along.
  2. Take a shower and change into pajamas first thing when you arrive at home.
  3. Cook dinner with your spouse and/or play with your pet!
  4. Savor a glass of red wine.
  5. Exercise.  Nothing helps your mind (and your body) like hitting the gym, taking a group exercise class, or going for a simple stroll through your neighborhood.

Exercise is such a great break after work/ before home because it lets me get any frustration out before I see the kids. But I love your idea of singing with the radio… I should do that instead of listening to news/ talk radio.
